It’s hard to believe the last two Santa Claus/Christmas parades for 2016 are coming up this weekend. The Pelham Santa Claus parade gets under way at 1 o’clock in Fenwick, and it’s the last of ten parades around Niagara this holiday season. If you like small town charm and the special feeling of Christmas, this parade is a must.
Just a couple of hours prior to that, the 52nd annual Niagara-on-the-Lake Ch... Click here
Coming up this weekend it’s the final 2 Santa Claus Parades in Niagara with the first being in Niagara on the Lake followed by Pelham.
In my many years of being on the air, I have had the pleasure of not only participating in the yearly tradition but on quite a few occasions I was able to broadcast parades for local TV. Trust me, there are many things that can go wrong when announcing parades so I thought I would share some of my favourites.
What’s that old line….”It was the best of times, it was the worst of times”? That might best describe this past Saturday night at the Merritton Community Centre, the site of Crossfire Wrestling’s Jingle Bell Brawl V. The card started off with two very entertaining matches, Justin Sane vs Carter Mason, then Professionally Jacked, made up of Rage and Jaxon Jarvis, against the veteran team of the Italianos. The ladies took over the ring for a ... Click here
The CFL showed us once again why fans of the league are so passionate and dedicated to their respective favourite teams and to the league as a whole. Sunday night's Grey Cup game at BMO Field in Toronto will go down as one of the most riveting, thrilling championship games in the long, illustrious history of the game. The Ottawa RedBlacks, in only their third year of operation, pulled off the almost unthinkable. In one of the greatest upsets of all-time, 41 year old quarterback Henry ... Click here
For some people, the holiday season started on November 12th, the day after Remembrance Day. The decorations came out, the shopping started and all of the social planning for the festive season began in earnest. For others, it might have been last weekend, when three Santa Claus parades were held in Niagara, in Niagara Falls, Welland and St. Catharines. For others, it may be this week, with the U.S. Thanksgiving and all the Black Friday sales now offered right her... Click here
For many people, this Saturday marks the official kickoff to the holiday season! That’s because the first two Santa Claus/Christmas parades of the season in Niagara are taking place. The first parade, and it’s become a tradition for it to be the first, is in Niagara Falls, beginning at 11 A.M.
That will be followed by this year’s Welland parade at 4 P.M.

Playing Corey Hart's Classic 'Sunglasses at Night', I got to thinking about the wearing of sunglasses generally. I don't mean in the middle of summer, when otherwise our eyes would be fried. I mean this time of year. Sometimes I feel strange wearing my dark shades. I have prescription glasses, so I can see to drive- and the late afternoon sun hangs at just the angle in the sky, that it really helps to darken the specs.
My problem is going into a store, or anywher... Click here
If you’re a sports fan, is there a worse feeling than the morning after your team loses out in the playoffs? No matter the sport, no matter the day of the week, if your team has lost a playoff game that ends their season, particularly when you felt in your heart of hearts that this could be the year, there’s an emptiness the day after that leaves you cold.
In my case, it’s Sunday’s loss by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the CFL's Wester... Click here
Remembrance Day is upon us. It’s a day to pay tribute to the brave men and women who have served in the past and who serve today, helping to keep our incredible country safe and free.
I always think of my Dad on Remembrance Day. Like many of his generation, he felt the patriotic obligation to serve his country, and signed up voluntarily at the beginning of World War II. And oh yeah, he was underage for service, so he lied about his age. I guess potential so... Click here
So today many people are waking up and realizing that Donald Trump has become the 45th President of the United States after easily beating Hillary Clinton on Tuesday night. The reaction from some people is quite funny if not down right hilarious; they just can’t understand how a non-political figure could become “Commander in Chief.”
Both candidates came into this race with dark clouds hovering over them. Tru... Click here
So Donald Trump has been elected as the 45th President of the United States. The reasons for his stunning victory will be discussed for years, as it was absolutely a win of historical significance. I get that a lot of people, including possibly you reading this, are not fans of Trump for any one of a number of reasons. Personally, I think Donald Trump won because he was NOT a politician. I believe millions of people, not just in the U.S., but here in Canada and right here in Ontario, ar... Click here
After what has seemed like forever, the U.S. election campaign is coming to an end tomorrow, when voters will select a new President. It has been a campaign like no other, with more dirt thrown by both candidates than we ever though we would see for such a major, historical position in the world, the leader of the United States of America. The turmoil began through the U.S. primaries, with allegations of the fix being in from the Democrats to ensure Hilary Clinton would emerge as the pa... Click here
As I mentioned in a previous blog, I love the first day of a new month. The reason is simple: my very thoughtful wife gave me a Chuck Norris calendar for my Man Cave last Christmas. It's easily the best Man Cave calendar ever, in my humble opinion. It's filled with different facts and photos about arguably, the toughest man who has ever walked on Earth, Chuck Norris. This thought-provoking blog is being ... Click here
I got home from my 7- Midnight shift this week and walked in the house. It was too quiet. Much too quiet. I walked into the kitchen to find my wife on the floor, unconscious. She was unresponsive. She blinked at me, but said nothing. I knelt down. Her breathing was shallow. EMS and the St Catharines Fire Department were in the house within minutes.
Seven highly trained and dedicated team members had her in the ambulance and on the way to Niagara Health System, St. Ca... Click here
Are you following the World Series at all? I’m just going to guess, but after the Blue Jays were knocked out of the playoffs by Cleveland, the number of people in Canada still following the post season diminished considerably. I love baseball, and even though my Washington Nationals fell short yet again, I’m still following the Fall Classic as much as possible. Mind you, given the time of day we have to get up to be on the air Monday through Friday, getting into... Click here
The Chicago Cubs are in the World Series for the first time since 1946. Cubs fans are about as loyal as they come, and the team winning the Fall Classic is no doubt on many a fans bucket list. But, being at iconic Wrigley Field for a game won't be cheap. Box seats at Wrigley have been posted on ticket-selling sites like StubHub for $50,000 and up, with one seller asking for $100,000 for a seat, and another asking for(but not getting yet, as far as I know), just under $1 million. If you’ve ever had a pet, or still do, and I’m just guessing that most of us have at one time or another, you know how special they are, how they literally become part of the family. Whether it’s at the urging of your children, your spouse or just because you love the companionship, there’s nothing like having a dog or a cat or other lovable pet around. My wife and I have had our adorable little buddy Furkin the cat for over 16... Click here
